Kampala, Uganda | LOUIS JADWONG & AGENCIES | The President of Uganda Baseball and Softball Association Felix Okuye has been confirmed as vice-president of the WBSC Africa, the continental governing body of Baseball, Softball and Baseball5.

Another Ugandan, Dennis Michael Kasozi, is treasurer.

“I recently took an oath of office since there has been no petition to my election held in July. Usually a 60-day period is given before one is confirmed as holding a position on WBSC Africa,” said Okuye, 41, in Kampala yesterday.

The elections were held in China Taipei in Taiwan on July 7, 2022. The President WBSC Africa is Albert Fripong from Ghana.

Okuye added that, ” The position at WBSC Africa confirms the confidence that Africa has in Uganda and also comes with an advantage to Uganda in terms of development of infrastructure of baseball and softball and spreading of the game on national level.”

Uganda is ranked Number 2 on the continent out of the 26 registered active members of World Baseball and Softball Confederation Africa.

Uganda is also ranked  43 in baseball out of the 198 World Baseball and Softball Confederation members, and had its reputation raised early this year when Los Angeles Dodgers, an MLB franchise, signed two players from Uganda.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) is the world governing body for the sports of Baseball, Softball and Baseball. The WBSC has 208 National Federation Members in 141 countries and territories across Asia, Africa, Americas, Europe and Oceania. Professional baseball organisations as well as youth organisations are also included and form an arm of the WBSC as Associate Members.
