Soroti, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Following the declaration of Paul Sande Emolot unopposed as the next Emorimor, the house of Teso elders has named a different person.
This comes a few days after Dr. Charles Otim, the Chairperson of the Iteso Cultural Union (ICU) Electoral Commission on Tuesday declared Paul Sande Emolot as dully nominated unopposed.
On the same occasion, Mzee William Aloch, one of the founder members of the Iteso Cultural Union was reportedly beaten up by Emolot’s supporters after he stormed the nominations venue at the union’s offices in Soroti City with his lawyers to serve Emolot with a court order stopping him from carrying out any activities as the acting Emorimor.
Now, a team of over 60 elders led by Nathan Isenged Okia convened on Saturday evening at Soroti hotel adjacent to ICU offices and declared Nicholas Dokoria as their preferred Emorimor.
Dokoria hails from Tororo just like Emolot.
After the demise of the fallen Emorimor, Augustine Osuban Lemukol on February 5th, 2022 at Mulago National Referral hospital of suspected COVID-19, the Iteso Cultural Union (ICU) plunged into confusion over his successor.
Mzee Zadok Adolu Otojoka, a retired lecturer at Makerere University from Serere district served as the minister of culture in the fallen Emorimor’s government. He explains that Emoloy has not followed the right channels in order to be elected to assume the office of Emorimor. Adolu stated that it’s the elders who hold the power to identify and chose a person whom they deem fit for the office of the Emorimor.
Roselyn Ajore from Bukedea district stated that the house of elders was able to unveil Nicholas Dokoria to vie for Emorimor’s position.
Julius Ekwenyu, an elder from Kumi district told our reporter that they came together as a team of elders to search for the next Emorimor and zeroed on Dokoria from Tororo.
Okia, who chaired the meeting told our reporter that what Emolot is doing is tantamount to a breach of court orders.
When contacted for comment, Dokoria, said he was taken unawares by the decision to name to vie for Emorimor’s post. Emolot has not yet commented on the new development.
