Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | FINCA Uganda is the newest player to acquire a bancassurance license from the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA). The license was handed over by Bernard Obel, the director for supervision at IRA ON Oct.4 in Kampala.

This significant milestone empowers FINCA to deliver a comprehensive suite of insurance products alongside its established financial services, greatly enhancing convenience and accessibility for customers.

“With the launch of Bancassurance at FINCA, we have significantly upgraded the service experience for our customers. They can now access a wide range of insurance options—including life, health, and property coverage—all while managing their banking needs in one centralized location,” said James Onyutta, managing director of FINCA Uganda.

He added: “Our skilled staff will provide expert financial planning advice, equipping customers to make informed decisions about their insurance and financial products. Additionally, policy renewals have been streamlined through the option of setting up standing instructions with FINCA, making the process efficient and hassle-free. We are confident that the integration of banking and insurance services will build greater trust and credibility, ensuring our customers feel secure in their financial decisions. Furthermore, a simplified claims process will provide timely support, making assistance readily available when it matters most.”

The Bancassurance model offers substantial benefits for insurance companies and brokers as well. By leveraging FINCA’s extensive network, insurers can access a broader customer base and enhance their credibility through collaboration with a trusted banking institution.

This partnership is set to significantly reduce policy lapse rates, as easy renewals will promote continued coverage. Additionally, the integration of services will create opportunities for cross-selling and up-selling, enabling the development of innovative co-branded insurance solutions that meet our customers’ needs. This expanded offering is poised to drive increased revenue for insurance partners while minimizing distribution costs.

For FINCA Uganda, securing the Bancassurance license is a critical advancement. “This initiative will not only enhance our non-interest income but also attract new customers and deepen service penetration within our existing client base. By leveraging our established infrastructure, we anticipate minimal additional distribution costs,” Onyutta said.
