Fire guts boys dormitory at Iganga High School

Boys dormitory on fire.

Iganga, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Another fire has gutted a boys dormitory at Iganga high school. The fire is said to have broken out at the entrance of the dormitory at around 5:00am this morning. The fire reduced students’ items such as mattresses, suitcases, books and clothings to ashes.

The school administrators have remained tight-lipped on the matter, saying they are still working with the police to quantify the financial losses and damage resulting from the fire. The Busoga East Police Spokesperson Diana Nandawula says that all students are safe. She says that they are still trying to ascertain the cause of the fire.

Nandawula has tasked school administrators to space students dormitories to enable the team of fire and rescue services to respond effectively to fire incidents. This is the second fire incident at the same dormitory within a space of one month.

In June 2022, fire broke out in the same school, which police blamed on a short circuit.
