Fire guts carpentry workshops in Kasese

Part of the workshop that has been erased down by the inferno

Kasese, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT  |  More than 40 carpenters are counting losses after fire gutted carpentry workshops in Kasese Municipality. The burnt workshops are located in Kilembe quarters.

Bernard Kazoora, the LCI Chairperson said that the fire gutted the workshops in the wee hours of Thursday morning and spread out to the entire workshops.  The fire destroyed property including carpentry machines, chairs, beds and tables.

Tom Baluku a proprietor of one of the burnt workshop says that some of the destroyed properties belonged to their clients. 

Lillian Atuhaire says that she has lost her investment, adding that it will be hard for her to start life afresh after losing everything she invested in the workshop. 

Moses Kimole says the fire started from one of the workshops where the electricity meter box is fixed. He estimates to have lost over 30 million shillings.

The Kasese District Police Commander Wilfred Bagenda says that they contained the fire from spreading to other places although the damages were grave.  He says they have launched investigations to establish the possible cause of the fire.
