Hoima, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Fire has gutted the Hoima Chief Magistrates Court premises in Kijungu cell, Hoima City destroying several case files.
The fire which started around 6 a.m. on Saturday is said to have started from the archives of the High Court, a few meters from the Albertine region police headquarters in Hoima East division.
The Albertine Region Police Spokesperson Julius Hakiza says that the police were tipped off after residents saw fire emerging from the court premises at around 6 a.m. He says that the police fire and rescue team rushed to contain the fire and sealed off the premises to kickstart investigations.
According to Hakiza, they are currently analyzing CCTV footage to establish the exact cause of the fire. By press time, this afternoon, the judiciary had not released any information about the incident.
In December 2022, unknown thugs broke into the Hoima Chief Resident State Attorney’s office and torched several files. The affected offices are located along Hoima-Kampala road near the office of the Resident City Commissioner-RCC, Hoima Resident District Commissioner-RDC, Albertine Regional Police headquarters, and District Internal Security Officer-DISO.
The thugs then gained access to the offices through the hind part of the building after cutting the chain link and setting several case files on fire.
