Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | A game high 17 points from veteran Stephen Omony set defending champions City Oilers to a winning start as the FIBA Africa Zone 5 Club Championships got underway in Kampala on Sunday.
City Oilers got their campaign underway with an emphatic 93-46 victory over Tanzanians Savio at the Lugogo arena, as all Ugandan clubs registered victories on day one
The hosts City Oilers were so dominant that they had a 30 point lead at the halfway point against Savio (49-19).
In the women’s event, Uganda’s KCCA set the ball rolling with a 57-45 victory over Rwanda’s APR.
Fifteeen clubs from five countries are battling for honours at this year’s FIBA Africa Zone 5 Club Championships hosted by Ugandan giants City Oilers Basketball Club and the sports governing body FUBA.
The week-long tournament that started Sunday morning at Lugogo will also serve as regional qualifiers for the FIBA Africa Club Championship finals to be hosted in Casablanca, Morocco in December.
