Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Uganda football fraternity has paid tribute to Uganda Cranes Ex Midfielder Hassan Wasswa Biluma after the versatile player announced his retirement from playing football.
The player put an end on his footballing career after serving the Uganda Cranes for over 13 years and securing 75 caps in the National team jersey, in his statement, Hassan Waswa said it has been honor to represent his country for thirteen years.
“During my 13 years as a Cranes player, I’ve always pursued success and winning football games, while preparing and training with the highest standards of competition, passion and perseverance. It has been an honor to represent my family, my teammates and the people of Uganda. With much sadness but without regret, I realize that I am no longer able to adhere to the unwavering standard of excellence that professional football demands. I say this with a heavy heart: I am retiring from the National team” Part of the statement reads
The Football fraternity has now hailed the former assistant captain as one of the best players the country has ever produced. Many say he he has been a hard working player others described him as one of the most versatile players.
Uganda Cranes interim coach Abdallah Mubiru says the player has been giving all his heart whenever he is on the pitch.
He said it is a pity that the player has decided to retire now. However he says he celebrate his legacy and he will always refer to him whenever he wants to inspire all upcoming players who dream about playing for the National team.
Uganda Cranes Captain Denis Onyango applauded the player for the role he has played for the national team football for the thirteen years he has served.
“I would like to personally congratulate you on your retirement from international football, while you will be missed by all of us, you certainly deserved to bow out with honor, your hard work and diligence have greatly benefited the Cranes over the thirteen years”. Onyango said in a stament
Uganda Cranes head coach Johnathan McKnistry says the payers has been and will continue to remain a great example to future generations of what it takes to excel in the red shirt of Uganda.
FUFA President Moses Magogo said Wasswa hated to lose a single game and he could give all what he could, the administrator added on that FUFA will organize a testimonial match for the retired player in respect for his stay at the National team.
“He is one of the few players who always gave 200%. he really hated to lose, there are many good and bad moments we experienced on this journey but that is life, 13 years with 75 caps at the senior level has earned Hassan Wasswa a testimonial match organized by FUFA at an appropriate time, he will determine the Line-Ups and what the collections of the match will be used in accordance to his decision” Magogo said
Hassan Wasswa Biluma 33, was born on 14th, February 1988, he has played for different clubs locally and abroad including KCC FC, SC Villa locally, he also played abroad in FC Cape Town (South Africa), Karabukspor (Turkey), Altay (Turkey), Kayseri Erciyesspor (Turkey), Dong Nai (Vietnam), Al Shorta (Iraq), Nejmeh Sporting Club (Lebanon) and other teams
Primarily the player was a defensive midfielder however due to the versatility in is style of play, he was deployed in different playing position including the midfield and center back.
