Police has confirmed that 14 passengers traveling in a taxi registration number UAZ 350 U from Eastern Uganda to Kampala are dead after an accident involving a truck registration number UAU 650 S in Sagazi-Lugazi.
Uganda Police PRO Sezibwa Region Lameck Kigozi told the media that the driver of the lorry lost control, ramming into the taxi Wednesday afternoon. He blamed the accident on heavy rains and bad driving practices, but said investigations are on going.
Efforts by fire and rescue teams are on going. Reports indicate that they rescue teams are still cutting the wreckage of the taxi to find any survivor but chances are very slim that anybody in the taxi could have survived.
So far all bodies removed have been taken to Kawolo hospital mortuary.
