Napak, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The police in Napak district has launched a hunt for gunmen who ambushed and killed a businessman.
Michael Longole, the Karamoja regional police spokesperson identified the deceased as Lorot Turon, 40 years, a resident of Kamor village, Kanawat sub county in Kotido district.
He says that Lorot who is also a cattle keeper was shot dead on Thursday at around 11am at Sinyu area along Moroto-Kotido road. Longole said Turon was shot while on his way to Kotido from Napak. He adds that the armed men also robbed 15 million shillings from the deceased.
“We received the information from concerned citizens and we have dispatched our joint force, the army and the police, “he said.
According to Longole, preliminary investigations indicate that the boda boda rider who was carrying Lorot connived with the gunmen.
Longole said Lokong Chopai and Lomongin Bosco who were travelling with the deceased on the same motorcycle have been arrested to help in the investigation process.
Samuel Loke, one of the residents of Lopei sub county in Napak district said the insecurity in the region is getting out of hand.
According to Loke, so far five people have been shot dead and others injured along that road.
Mariko Lopus said whenever they try to raise the security issues to the relevant authority they are told the situation is under control.
“You hear the government say the situation is under control but people keep on dying, “he said.
