Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The bail application hearing for the Andrew Felix Kaweesi murder suspects failed to kick off on Tuesday on grounds that the trial judge, Lydia Mugambe was unwell.

Justice Margaret-Oguli Oumo told the defense lawyers and sureties of the suspects in her chambers that Justice Mugambe was unwell and would be available on June 17th 2019.

The suspects are Abdul-Rashid Mbaziira, Aramanzani Noordin Higenyi alias Taata Abdullazack, Yusuf Mugerwa alias Wilson, Bruhan Balyejusa alias Jimmy Masiga Ogutu, Joshua Magezi Kyambadde alias Abdu Rahman, Jibril Kalyango alias Abu Aisha, Yusuf Siraje Nyanzi alias Jimmy Ssentamu and Shafik Kasujja.

Prosecution was not in court. The Defense lawyer, Anthony Wameli, said it is unfortunate the hearing of the bail application of his clients couldn’t take place. Wameli told URN that they had filed all the necessary documentation to secure the bail of his clients.

Wameli decried the manner in which the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution-DPP is handling the case, which borders on the abuse of the suspect’s rights. He says the DPP takes up cases from police that are not well investigated. Wameli says they will hesitate to file a petition against the DPP should he continue acting in such a manner.
