Mbarara, Uganda |  THE INDEPENDENT |   The High Court in Mbarara has dismissed a petition filed by the State Minister for Economic Monitoring, Molly Kamukama blocking the nomination of Jennifer Muheesi as the NRM flag bearer for Kazo District Woman MP.

Muheesi defeated Kamukama last month with 16,802 votes. Kamukama garnered 16,715 votes.

Kamukama later filed an application in the High Court demanding for nullification of Muheesi’s victory claiming that the party primaries were marred with irregularities.

On Thursday, High Court presided over Justice Joyce Kavuma ruled that the evidence the petitioner brought to court was not substantial to warrant blocking Muheesi’s nomination.

The Deputy Registrar Mbarara High Court, Samuel Twakire, also dismissed an application filed by Anna Kansiime, against the nomination of Molly Asiimwe, who won the Rwampara Woman Member of Parliament NRM Primaries.

Kansiime petitioned the High Court last week seeking an order to block the nomination of her rival until the main case is disposed of.

Kansiime, filed a petition seeking nullification of the victory of Asiimwe, claiming the electoral primaries were marred with irregularities.

The Rwampara District NRM Richard Asiimwe declared Kansiime winner with 20,019 votes against Asiimwe’s 17,343 votes.

However days later the NRM party National Chairperson Electoral Commission, Dr Tanga Odoi overturned the declaration and announced Asiimwe as the winner with 17,808 Votes, while Kansiime had 16,566 votes.

Odoi’s decision forced Kansiime to file a court application seeking a nullification and judicial review of who should hold the NRM party flag for Rwampara district.

She later also filed an application seeking an order to block Asiimwe’s nomination by the Electoral Commission.
