How do Ugandans remember Idi Amin Dada?

According to Lumumba, it is the media and the western world that spoilt Amin’s name.
“When you look at how Ugandans see Amin legacy, it is so different from how the media and the international community see it. These people are biased, portraying Amin as a cannibal. You see lies don’t stay for long, and some time to come, people will realise Amin was a Ugandan who transformed the lives of Ugandans,” Lumumba said.

Gulu Municipality MP Lyandro Komakech says Amin’s regime is a classic case study on how leadership can be at its worst. He however says that although Amin was bad, he built national institutions.

Erute North MP Charles Gutumoi says Amin’s problem was that he acted alone without consulting. He says some errors committed by Amin were because he was uneducated. He says Amin didn’t control his fears.

Benard Atiku, the Ayivu County MP, says Amin was sabotaged a lot, and led the country when there were several embargoes on Uganda. He says despite the challenges, Amin did well.

According to Atiku, Amin also left Uganda debt free. He says fabricated lies about Amin are dying off.
