How senators voted on 11 charges against Gachagua

 

Nairobi, Kenya | THE STAR KENYA |  Senators on Thursday night upheld the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

They upheld five of the 11 charges levelled against Gachagua.

“The Senate has resolved to remove from office by impeachment H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya. 

“Accordingly, H.E. Rigathi Gachagua ceases to hold office,” Speaker Amason Kingi said.

The upheld charges include; the charge on Shareholding remarks, charge four on undermining Independence of Judges and charge five on National Cohesion and Integrity Act.

They also upheld the sixth and ninth grounds on crimes under the National Cohesion Act and Gross Misconduct.

Here’s how the senators voted on each allegation;

Gross Violation of Articles 10 (2) (A), (B) and (C); 27 (4), 73 (1) (A) and (2) (B); 75 (1) (C), and 129 (2) of the Constitution and Articles 147 (1), as read with Article 131 (2)(C) and (D) of the Constitution.
