ICPAU names NSSF winner of top financial award

Kampala, Uganda | JULIUS BUSINGE | The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) was on Nov. 14 declared the overall winner of the 2018 financial reporting awards organised by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPA-U) at Serena Hotel, beating several other participants.

The organisers said the Fund won because it presented an impressive and highly innovative annual report that showed high standards of financial reporting covering areas of environment and social aspects. “The Fund exceeded our expectations,” one of the organizers said. ICPAU’s president, CPA Frederick Kibbedi, said since 2011, the awards have improved financial reporting within organisations.

The other winners were Stanbic Bank (Silver award) and Uganda Development Bank Limited (Bronze award) among others. This year’s awards were organised under the theme ‘leading from the boardroom; achieving quality financial reporting’.

Finance Minister Matia Kasaija, the chief guest said that improved financial reporting builds confidence amongst stakeholders of organisations in question. He also urged Ugandans to shun corruption which he said is an impediment to economic growth.

“Young people you’re in a rush to amass wealth; be patient,” Kasaija said. Over 300 people attended the colorful awards event.
