The World awaits Kenya result
Kenya’s election commission earlier delayed the announcement of final Presidential results, saying they are ensuring they get it right before acting after a hotly-contested vote.
The IEBC had promised to make final announcments at 2.30pm, but the body’s CEO Ezra Chiloba came at 4pm at the National Tally Centre Bomas to explain they were still cross checking documents, and would rather be slow and sure.
Drama meanwhile played out as opposition NASA broadcast on facebook their tally centre, after which they held a press conference saying they had not been given majority of the forms from the elections. They said IEBC is now looking into the anormalies they raised and said results will not be released soon.
The opposition has already claimed victory, fanning tensions in the east African nation.
The IEBC insists its electronic voting system — seen as key to avoiding fraud — had not been compromised as alleged by opposition NASA leaders, despite apparent attempts to do so.
“Hacking was attempted but did not succeed, that is our position,” said Chebukati.
“So far we have received 273 Form 34B. We however call for patience as we await the remaining forms to be returned. “- Wafula Chebukati
