The office of the Inspector General of Government launched the third annual report on tracking corruption trends in Uganda using the Data Tracking Mechanism.
The IGG, Irene Mulyagonja said that the Data Tracking Mechanism was initiated in 2009 as a strategy design to make an impact on accountability.
However she highlighted poverty, moral decadence and public apathy as the major challenges to fighting corruption.
She called upon the major players to collaborate and fight corruption in Uganda because it works against good governance and development.
“There is need for deliberate efforts from individuals and the international community to fight corruption, the appreciation of the war cannot be won without public effort” she said during the launch in Kampala.
Sarah Ssewanyana the Executive Director of Economic Policy Research Centre (EPRC) said that corruption has been institutionalized and government officials should be given performance targets.
The World Bank Country Manager Ahmdou Moustapher Ndiaye said that strong measures should be employed to protect the public and eliminate corruption.
“Disseminate the details widely and respond to challenges” he said.
