Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | On 13th May 2024, the Confederation of African Football- CAF cleared Mandela National Stadium- Namboole fit to host the Uganda Cranes World Cup qualifying fixtures against Botswana and Algeria.
The clearance came after the stadium hosted two Uganda Premier League test matches that convinced the continental governing body to give Uganda the nod.
Col. Peter Kidemuka, the project Engineer said that since the stadium was cleared, the contractor continued working diligently and several improvements have been made, particularly in the VVIP section, including the installation of bulletproof mirrors, and a new LED scoreboard, leaving the first phase of renovation is 95 percent complete.
Kidemuka explained that this percentage is only left for the installation of floodlights where they ordered 212 floodlights an increase of 48 from the ones that existed before. Kidemuka explained that these will generate 200 lux on matchday. Uganda Radio Network brings you pictures of the new look of Mandela National stadium, Namboole.
