Jinja, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Police have finally identified that the couple that was gunned down at Lwanda primary school, in Northern division, in Jinja City on Friday night. The deceased are Juliet Mirembe and Sadam Waiswa.
The duo was shot dead by assailants traveling in a numberless commuter taxi. An eye witness told URN on condition of anonymity that the assailants trailed their victims from Lwanda trading center area before the shooting.
According to the source, the couple that was was traveling in a Toyota Wish vehicle registration number UBF 359V first bought snacks from Lwanda trading center. They parked their vehicle along Jinja-Kamuli highway before pitching camp at Lwanda primary school playground.
Amos Mutebi, who claims to have witnessed the shooting, says that Waiswa was hesitant to handover the car keys to the assailants prompting them to open gunfire at them.
“I was standing with my two other friends about ten meters away from the shooting scene. I overheard one of the assailants who spoke in a Lusoga dialect calling Waiswa by name and tasking him to handover the car keys, which he resisted prompting them to open gunfire before speeding off towards Kamuli,” he said.
James Mubi, the Kiira Region police spokesperson, says that they have opened two cases of murder by shooting and aggravated robbery vide CRB 901/2021 at Jinja central police station.
He says that detectives visited the scene of crime where they retrieved three cartridges that were released from an AK-47 rifle. Mubi says that morticians are still examining the deceased’s body to confirm whether there are traces of bullets.
