Jinja district council approves executive committee

Jinja City.

Jinja, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Jinja district council has finally approved four members of the executive committee.

The election of the executive was halted following disagreements about the location of the district headquarters and a ban of gatherings following the outbreak of Covid-19.

The names of the members were presented by the LC V chairperson Moses Batwala.

They include the Vice chairperson Viola Nanangwe, the secretary for health and education Prossy Mutiibwa, Samuel Akalyamawa for secretary finance, and Prossy Nakirya, secretary for production and natural resources. Batwala retained the works and transport docket.

Simon Kibombo, the councilor representing Buwenge sub-county says that the lack of a functional executive committee was frustrating service delivery within the district.

“The executive committee is the top most arm which liaises with the technocrats to ensure that our electorates have timely access to service delivery and now that, it is fully constituted, we shall surely handle the challenges within our communities,” he says.

Ruth Mubezi, the female councilor representing workers in Jinja district says that the executive will be instrumental in the institution of sub-committees, mandated with ensuring the smooth execution of council business.

Batwala argues that he appointed the councilors basing on their capabilities and whoever fails to perform to the expectation of the electorates shall be replaced.
