Kasese , Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Joint Medical Stores -JMS has donated an oxygen concentrator and a fetal doppler to Kilembe Mines Hospital in Kasese Municipality in an effort to improve health services at the facility. A fetal doppler monitors a baby when still in the mothers’ uterus.
The hospital received the donation on Wednesday during a brief ceremony. The hospital was damaged by floods last year and medical equipment was damaged.
Dr. Edward Wefula the hospital medical superintendent says they have been struggling with the refiling oxygen concentrators which require high maintenance cost. He says they are recording an increasing number of patients who need oxygen.
Dr. Wefula however says they are still lacking a quality X-Ray and Ultra sound machines among other items that were either destroyed by floods or are worn-out.
The JMS Executive Director Dr. Bildard Baguma told Uganda Radio Network (URN) after the donation on Wednesday that they are trying to help the facility get back to its feet after the floods last year. He says JMS has donated items worth over 70 million shillings since floods ravaged the facility.
