Bududa, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Police in Bududa district are holding two job seekers over forgery.
The two, Micheal Wamula Wamanga and Julius Wafula, were on Monday arrested from Bududa Service Commission after a tip by the service commission officials. It was alleged that the two presented themselves for interviews with documents which were forged.
Last month, Bududa district advertised for over 200 posts in different departments including administration, health, production and education.
According to Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, charges of forgery and uttering forged documents have been preferred against them as investigations continue.
Although over one thousand applicants were shortlisted, a big number of them have decided to keep away from the interviews that started last week, after being tipped off that there was a possibility of being arrested if one had forged documents.
So far, over 50 applicants have been thrown out of the interview panel with others being interrogated at police after realizing that they were holding forged documents.
According to the CID office at Bududa central police station, some applicants who were handed over to police have confessed to having documents which are not genuine with some though insisting that theirs are genuine.
At the time of filing the story, the district service commission chaired by John Wakinya, was still conducting interviews while interrogations of those handed over to police were also ongoing at the police station.
Milton Kamoti Wasunguyi, the Bududa district chairperson said he cannot help those who have forged documents.
