Kabale, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Kabale district has registered 93 cases of tuberculosis in the last eight months, according to statistics collected by the Health department from both private and public treatment facilities.
The 93 cases are part of 24,023 people who were screened for tuberculosis between January and August this year. The number represents an increase from 70 cases that were registered in 2019.
The acting Kabale District Health Officer, Alfred Besigensi calls on the local communities to seek early treatment for coughs for early TB diagnosis and treatment, saying many people are reluctant to visit health facilities.
Tuberculosis (TB) is caused by a type of bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is transmitted when a person with active TB in their lungs coughs or sneezes and someone else inhales the expelled droplets which the bacteria.
TB presents with cough, chest pain, chills, fever, loss of appetite and weight. However, it can be treated with a combination of medicines.
