Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Uganda’s Peace Amooti Kabasweka kept her best for the final three holes on the final day, to clinch her first Johnnie Walker Uganda Ladies Open golf title Saturday afternoon.

Tied at the 15th hole with Tanzania’s Iddi Madina Hussein after blowing a four shot lead, Kabasweka held her nerve with three consecutive par scores on 16, 17th and 18th to win by one in front of cheering fans at the Uganda Golf Club at Kitante. A bogey on the final hole by Madina Hussein cost her the title.

“I feel so happy, I am excited, and I am over the moon. I have chased this title for the last four years and I have been very close before. I almost gave up at number 18, but handed it to God on the last hole,” Kabasweka said.

The Toro Golf club player had set the foundation for her victory on day one on Thursday, where rainy conditions had favoured her putting, as she built a solid 5 stroke lead.

“The competition was fierce but I managed to make it at the end of the day. I’d like to thank my caddie, fans, family and sponsors,” said Kabasweka.
