Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has expressed displeasure with Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) over its failure to facilitate the Miss Tourism Uganda for the International competition in Malaysia.
Kadaga said that the Board’s action was disadvantaging the promotion of Uganda’s tourism sector and frustrating youth who have come up to market the country. Kadaga was speaking during a meeting with the newly crowned Miss Tourism Phiona Bridget Kyeru, 22, who is scheduled to represent the country at the competitions that are due to take place next month.
Kadaga recounted how the former Miss Uganda Quinn Abenakyo lacked support towards the Miss World Competition yet when she emerged Miss World-Africa, many people wanted to associate with the win.
She donated a two-way air ticket to the new Miss Tourism and appealed to the government to get practical about funding the tourism sector by ensuring that the pageants are funded through the National Budget.
Allan Kanyike, the Miss Tourism Chief Executive Officer accused UTB of abandoning the Miss Tourism Initiative.
However, Lilly Ajarova the Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Tourism Board said she could not readily respond to the concerns of the Miss Tourism Foundation.
