Kampala Parents School sports day provides new lessons in unity

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | At Kampala Parents’ School, the spirit of unity and healthy competition took centre stage during the annual sports day on August 27th. Amidst enthusiastic cheers, students from different houses showcased their athletic talents, turning the day into more than just a competition. Could this year’s event have set a new benchmark for student camaraderie and enthusiasm?

The school’s extensive sports grounds turned into a playground of energy and determination as students from houses like KOB, LION, LEOPARD, RHINO, CRANE, and ELEPHANT engaged in thrilling contests. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as parents and peers added to the fervour with their enthusiastic support. From exhilarating relay races to challenging obstacle courses, students displayed not only their physical prowess but also an unyielding determination to succeed.

In terms of points and rankings, the KOB house emerged victorious with an impressive 637 points. The LION house closely followed with a notable 611 points, securing the second spot. The LEOPARD house proudly claimed the third position with a commendable 603 points. The RHINO house, characterized by strength and perseverance, held strong with 597 points. The CRANE and ELEPHANT houses, while placing sixth and seventh, respectively, showcased admirable teamwork and determination.

Among the participants and spectators, two distinguished guests of honour stood out: Dr Isabirye Paul, a renowned public health specialist, and SPC Frank Mwesigwa, the deputy director of counter-terrorism.

Dr. Isabirye, a parent within the school community, applauded the collaborative efforts of teachers, students, parents, and school management in nurturing excellence in both academics and sports. Highlighting the holistic advantages of sports for young learners, Dr. Isabirye emphasized the role of sports in education.

SPC Frank Mwesigwa, known for his dedication to public service, expressed his excitement, saying, “I am thrilled to be part of this prestigious showcase of talent and sports, which enables us to directly engage with the public and educate them about our wide array of services.” His presence added significance to the event, emphasizing the importance of such occasions in fostering community bonds and holistic development.

Daphine Kato, the headteacher of Kampala Parents’ School, extended gratitude to parents for entrusting their children’s education to the institution. She reiterated the school’s commitment to nurturing not just academic excellence, but also individual talents from an early age. Ms. Kato thanked the school’s management, specifically acknowledging Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia and Rajiv Ruparelia, for their unwavering dedication to student, parent, and educator well-being.

As the day concluded,  Kato announced that Kampala Parents’ School continues to welcome applications from parents seeking a holistic education for their children. “The school’s philosophy, reflected in events like the spectacular sports day, underscores the importance of nurturing physical, social, and intellectual growth to mould responsible and accomplished citizens,” she said.

She added: “The Kampala Parents’ School Day highlighs remarkable athletic talents and the institution’s commitment to holistic education. With esteemed guests, strong parental support, and a palpable sense of unity, the event showcased the many benefits of sports in shaping young minds and celebrating collective success.”
