Kamwenge, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Kamwenge District is to benefit from 16 Billion Shillings in infrastructure development under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development-USMID program.

The money will be used to construct three roads which include Bwitankanja-Nsonosa 5.6 kilometers, Burambira-Mikamba-Bwitankanja 6.7 Kilometers and Mutwe-Kyamwera 7.4 Kilometers, construction of a Market Shed and Taxi Park and construction of a playground.

Others include the constriction of a resource center in the Nkoma-Katalyeba Town council, the construction of a Market Shed, and a resource center in Nkoma Sub-county.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony at Nkoma Katalyeba Town Council Headquarters, the Lands Minister Judith Nabakooba warned the contractors against incompetence.

Annet Kobusinge Birungi the Kamwenge District Engineer said that the projects were challenged by poor financial flow, system failure, and slow progress with no payment of advance requests by the contractors.

She said that the poor financial flow has also affected the supplementary budgets that were submitted and have not been approved by the Ministry of Finance.

Isaac Mutenyu the Project Coordinator of USMID in the Ministry of Lands said the USMID project is faced with the challenge of beneficiaries returning money to the treasury at the end of the financial year which affects work.

Aaron Kagaba, an engineer with Vesta Enterprises Limited, which was contracted to construct a resource center said that they are facing the challenge of heavy rains that started with the offset of constructions in October and they have slowed down the works.

Madon Mugabagye the Chairperson of Nkoma Katalyeba Central Market Vendors Association welcomed the construction of the markets. He however added that the location of the new market may not attract customers because it is located outside the town.
