Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | A notorious suspected thief in Mulimira zone has been killed by unknown people who also took off with his private parts.

The deceased only identified as Onyango was killed on Sunday morning, but after killing him, the attackers chopped-off his private parts and dumped his lifeless body along the Old-Kira road that stretches from Kamwokya to Bukoto in Kampala capital city.

But although Onyango has met a gruesome end, the local leadership think it is good riddance. Mugabe Adrian, the defense secretary of Old Kira road zone in Bukoto parish said the deceased has been known as one of thugs reportedly terrorizing the residents in Bukoto and Kamwokya slums at night.

Adrian said many residents have lots of evidence against the deceased as one of thugs who have been involved in several burglaries. He said recently the same group broke into a woman’s house and took off with UGX 400,000 and a laptop.

But other residents suspect that this was a ritual murder by people who were looking for human body parts. Vicent Kasozi and his colleague Nicholas, some of the witnesses that were found on the scene said this was a second incident where people are killed by unknown people in a similar way and cut off their private parts.

While Bwayo Brian said the criminal acts and insecurity in the area is on the rise. He has called for more night police patrols to stem the robberies.

Rose Namulemezi said she is a victim of the criminal gangs terrorizing Kamwokya slums. She said thugs broke into her rental and tried to gang rape her, but she was saved by neighbors who heard the alarm.

Police detectives from Kira-road police station who visited the scene recovered a knife and a number of master keys in deceased’s clothes. His body has been conveyed to the city mortuary Mulago.

The crime report of 2020 indicates that 540 cases of murder by mob action were reported compared to 746 cases reported in 2019. Victims of mob action were mainly suspected to have committed offences of theft, robbery, murder, witchcraft and burglary among others.
