Kanyamunyu applies for bail a fourth time

Kanyamunyu seeking bail

Kampala, Uganda | GODFREY SSALI |  TheLugogo shooting” key murder suspect Matthew Kanyamunyu has applied for bail for a fourth time.

Kanyamunyu’s fourth attempt to bail was filed through his Lawyers Ochieng Associates before the High Court in Kampala on Thursday. High Court received the application and will set a date for this hearing.

Kanyamunyu is accused of shooting dead social worker Kenneth Akena on November 22, 2016 along Kampala-Jinja Highway after he knocked his car.

He is jointly charged with his girlfriend Cynthia Munwangari and brother Joseph Kanyamunyu who have since been granted bail for being mere accomplices to the crime said to have been committed by him.

Just like in his previous three bail applications, Kanyamunyu maintained that  it is his constitutional right to be released on bail pending trial, and the fact that he is innocent till proved guilty.

The first two judges refused to release him on bail citing the overwhelming evidence the state intends to adduce against him.
