Rubaga South MP Kato Lubwama on Friday breathed a sigh of relief after the High Court in Kampala dismissed an application by a voter Habib Buwembo, seeking to have Makerere University be party to a petition he intends to file if given permission.
Buwembo had wanted Makerere University to be joined as a respondent with Kato Lubwama and the Electoral Commission for refusing to avail him with the necessary documents regarding Kato’s academic credentials.
Buwembo argues that Kato Lubwama did not have the academic qualifications to apply for Mature Age Entry to Makerere University, where he did a diploma.
However Justice Magret Oguli Oumo ruled that its not necessary at this stage to grant this application, yet Buwembo is still requesting court for extension of time to allow him file the intended petition to oust his area MP Paul Kato Lubwama.
Justice Oguli instead advised Buwembo to wait for the outcome of his first application because matters of proof of Kato Lubwama’s education are necessary in the main petition.
The judge has now adjourned the matter to Monday to hear Buwembo’s application in which he wants Lubwama out of the 10th Parliament on grounds of lack of the requisite academic qualifications.
