KCCA in conjunction with the Motor sport federation FMU have unveiled plans to hold a two day motor rally event to spice this year’s Kampala City Festival.
KCCA executive director Jennifer Musisi told journalists at city hall that Ugandans need to get an opportunity to enjoy high speed road racing that had never happened before on the city streets.
“So far we have 42 professional drivers who are going to participate in the rally and we shall have a bit of display on Tuesday on the streets of Kampala,”said Musisi.
The first rally, a sprint, will I’ll take place on October 1 in Naggulu, then the second one will be a race on October 2 in the middle of the city on the City Festival day.
To support the event, Vivo Energy Uganda offered sh50 million support to KCCA. Managing Director Hans Paulsen handed KCCA ED Musisi a sh 50 million cheque at a brief ceremony, saying “the carnival is about love and celebration of Kampala City. We are proud to be associated with this festival.”
On safety, Ambrose Byona the FMU Head of Marketing, said they will ensure traffic regulations are followed to make the event exciting..
“We are doing this because we have been given permission. We are shall drive under the guidelines of ministry of works and KCCA in conjunction with Uganda Police,” said Byona.
