The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) is urging traders to pay their license dues in time or else they will face the courts of law, a top KCCA official has said.
Speaking to The Independent in an interview on Jan. 10, Phoebe Lutaaya Kamya, the director revenue collection at KCCA said they have started registration of all businesses in Kampala so they can be able to trap those that have been evading the dues.
“For many years we have not been having a data base for businesses operating in Kampala,” she said, adding now we have started registration this January to have one. She said the registration will last for one month and will see KCCA’s revenue officers traverse the city carrying out the exercise.
“This time we are not going to run after any trader who fails to pay the fees. The courts of law will decide,” she warned, adding anyone who fails to pay in time will pay more than they would if they had responded in time.
She said so far, most traders are willing and are fast at giving details about their businesses. “We hope the exercise will be successful and we urge all traders to positively respond.”
The city authority sets license fees according to the size and type of business one operates around the city boundaries.
