Nairobi, Kenya | THE STAR KENYA | Deputy Chief Justice and vice President of the Supreme Court Philomena Mwilu has asked Kenyans to pray for judges as they retreat to write their verdict on the presidential petition.
Curtains on the three-day hearing came down on Friday after a strenuous submission spree involving dozens of lawyers.
Mwilu said they have worked as a team and hope they will make good judgment after listening to all those who presented their arguments.
“We work as a team here. We divide roles. We consider ourselves equals. None of us has veto power but of course, we have a team leader. Pray for us as we undertake the next phase,” she said in her final remarks.
“Pray that we shall have a very high sense of discernment and that we shall return to Kenyans a judgment not less than what they expect,” she said.
Supreme Court has now retreated to write judgment after 3 days of hearing.

Chief Justice Martha Koome also thanked those who took part and made sure the proceedings moved smoothly.
She extended her gratitude to the international and local observers who also closely followed the proceedings.
“We continue to ask like the vice-president has said that you continue to pray for us so that we can render judgment that promotes our Constitution that is anchored in the law, that nurtures our democracy, that brings harmony to our country and everything good stated in our Constitution,” Koome said.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday consolidated seven petitions into one saying they all raised the same concerns raised by the lead petitioner, Raila Odinga of the Azimio la Umoja one Kenya coalition.
Raila has challenged the election of Deputy President William Ruto as the President-elect.
The judges who also include Njoki Ndung’u, Issack Lenaola, Mohammed Ibrahim, Smokin Wanjala and William Ouko will render their judgment on Monday, September 5, 2022.
