Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Diocese of Kigezi says the purpose for which it formed its Kampala Chapter is far from promoting ethnic-religious fellowship or radicalization in cosmopolitan Diocese of Kampala.
The Kampala chapter was started in June to promote the fellowship of Christians from the Diocese of Kigezi who are working or living in greater Kampala.
During its meetings, the Chapter celebrates an English translated Holy Communion Service in Lunyankole and Lukiga languages.
Reverend Erasmus Turyatunga, the Diocesan secretary of the Diocese of Kigezi says the fellowship embraces other ethnic groups and friends of Kigezi despite highlighting lots of issues in the mother diocese in Kabale.
Reverend Turyatunga says it is wrong to mistake the fellowship as Christian gathering bent on ethnic lineage.
Manzi Tumubweine, former Finance Minister for Privatization who is the chairperson of the fellowship says Kampala Chapter was formed to cater for spiritual needs of all Christians from the Diocese migrating to urban centres rather than ethnic groupings.
The fellowship is in the process of assembling a choir composed of Christians from the Diocese of Kigezi to animate service in Runyankore and Rukiga languages.
Tumubweine says it is wrong to think that the fellowship is ethnic in nature adding that it is a platform meant to bring together people from Kabale region.
Bishop Bagamuhunda says it is impractical to have an ethnic Christian gathering in cosmopolitan civilizations. He says the fellowship is an opportunity for the Christian family to take time off their busy schedules to meet and walk together as a Christian family.
On Sunday, the Fellowship formed five Committees to promote its activities in greater Kampala as well as back at home in Kabale during its second meeting held at the Resurrection Church in Bugolobi.
They are Rules and Regulations Committee, Finance and Investment Committee, Fellowship and Communion Committee, Social Service Committee and that of Production and Environment.
Tumubweine says the Committees consist of critical mass of technical human resource necessary for the development of the Kigezi region.
