Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | A disciplinary panel of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations -FUFA has resolved that the missed game between Kigezi Home Boyz and Kitara Football Club in the ongoing Stanbic Bank Uganda cup should be played at Kavumba Recreation Grounds in Wakiso district.
This was announced in a statement that was released on Thursday evening after Kigezi Home Boyz filed a formal petition about the game, which was initially suspended. The first leg of the game had initially been scheduled to be played on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Kavumba Recreation Grounds in Kampala, while the second leg would take place at Kabale Municipal Ground on Saturday afternoon.
Kitara Football Club had opted to host their home games at Kavumba Recreation Grounds because FUFA had declined to approve Masindi Municipal Stadium for the competition due to its sorry state and lack of required facilities.
On Tuesday, the team from Kigezi was denied access to the venue in Kavumba and were then informed that the opponent was waiting for a faceoff in Masindi. However, it was too late for them to travel from Kavumba, in Wakiso District to Masindi, a distance of 206 kilometres away. Kigezi Home Boyz players later learnt that FUFA had approved Masindi Municipal Stadium after Kitara Football Club met the requirements, yet there was no communication sent to them prior to the game.
This compelled Kigezi Home Boyz to file a petition FUFA demanding an explanation why there was no prior communication about the changes. Now Deo Mutabazi, the Chairperson of the FUFA Disciplinary Committee Panel says that they have resolved that the game be played at Kavumba on a date to be communicated.
The statement also affirms that FUFA will meet the costs of Kigezi Home Boyz players who will be away from home to play the game at Kavumba Recreation Grounds. Timothy Tuhumwiire, the Kigezi Home Boyz Communications Officer welcomed the decision.
