Jinja, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Police have recovered the pump-action firearm, which armed robbers stole from a security guard at Stabex pump fuel station in Jinja city in the wee hours of Thursday morning.
Detectives from Kiira region recovered the gun while retrieving the body of 28 year-old Isaac Olupot, who was gunned down by the armed thugs and his colleague injured.
The two are attached to Security Group Africa Limited-SGA. Earlier on, Apollo Orweny, the SGA Jinja area manager told URN the robbers had fled off with the gun. However, on re-inspecting the scene, they managed to recover the gun from the drainage along the pump station. The detectives also recovered 10 cartridges fired from an AK-47 rifle.
James Mubi, the Kiira Region Police Spokesperson says the cartridges shall be subjected to forensic examination to ascertain the source of the killer gun. Mubi says that the CCTV footage obtained from the scene of crime shows that assailants were travelling in a blue coloured trailer.
He however says the number plates and the faces of the attackers are not visible enough. He says that the assailants fled with Shillings 3 million. Detectives are recording statements from eyewitnesses with the aim of easing their efforts to track the suspects.
