Kikuube, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The murder of Julius Irumba, 43, chairperson LCI of Musaijamukuru village, Buhimba sub-county, in Kikuube district has been linked to a land dispute.

Irumba was killed last week by unknown persons who had hired him to transport sand to Masindi.

However, when they reached Kinyaya sugar plantation, unknown persons emerged from the sugar plantation and intercepted him. The assailants who were armed with a panga, a knife, and a hammer reportedly pounced on him hacking him to death.

Irumba’s body was found in vehicle registration number UBE 514W Tipper lorry. The deceased succumbed to over-bleeding that resulted from the injuries inflicted on him by his assailants according to the postmortem report.

Amlan Tumusiime, the Kikuube Resident District Commissioner-RDC in an interview with URN said that Irumba was killed because of a land wrangle.

According to Tumusiime, a day before Irumba was killed, he led a group of people from Musaijamukuru village to the RDC’s office protesting the emergence of a fraudulently acquired title in their village.

He says that Irumba together with other village members wanted his intervention to investigate how some individuals acquired titles on their ancestral land.

According to Tumusiime, prior to his death, Irumba complained that he had started receiving death threats from unknown people.

He says they are investigating the matter to ensure that the culprits are apprehended for justice to prevail.
