Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | World Half Marathon champion Jacob Kiplimo has entered the Golden Spike event slated for May 19th in Ostrava in the Czech Republic.
Kiplimo joins another Uganda star runner and world 5,000 and 10,000m record holder Joshua Cheptegei who will run in the 3,000m race.
Kiplimo confirmed that he will participate in the event in an effort to secure Tokyo Olympic qualification for the 10,000m race. “I’m happy to announce I will run next at the Golden Spike to chase my Olympic qualification in the 10,000m race,” said Kiplimo.
At last year’s Golden Spike, Kiplimo won the 5000m clocking a personal best of 12:48.63. He also claimed the World U-20 bronze as a 15-year-old in 2016 with a Personal Best of 27:26.68.
On his part Cheptegei says the reason for participation in the event is intended to sharpen his speed and strength his abilities as the Tokyo Olympics gets closer.
Cheptegei started off the efforts of sharpening his sped in the local competition of the sixth track and field event in Namboole on April 24th where he competed in the 1500m race.
