Kwania, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The fate of lower class pupils at Aninolal primary school in Inomo Sub County in Kwania district hangs in balance following heavy rains, which blew off the roof of their classes last year.
Aninolal primary school has a total enrollment of 1010 pupils.
On November 12th, 2019, heavy rains accompanied by hailed storms swept away the roof of the block accommodating 387 pupils in P.2 and P.4 classes, the library and store.
The affected is said to low and was constructed with a beam making it prune to heavy winds, according to a reports in the cause of the disaster.
However, the district authorities have since failed to raise Shillings 20M required to fix the problem.
The school Head teacher, George Odongo, says over 900 pupils are now learning under tree shades while others learn in open air classrooms.
According to Odongo, many pupils are likely to shun school should the situation persist. He calls on government, Non-governmental organizations and well-wishers to come to their rescue.
Andrew Omunu, the Kwania District Education Officer, says the school needs immediate intervention and pledged to support it in the subsequent financial year.
Galdino Obwor, the School Management Committee Chairperson, says they have held several meetings with parents to forge a way forward without success.
Obwor also says they haven’t received response since the matter was forwarded to the Office of the Prime Minister.
