Kyambogo asks students to report for studies

Kyambogo University

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Kyambogo University has asked continuing students to report for face to face lectures in preparation for examinations.

A February 9th memo to all staff and students by the Vice-Chancellor Professor Elli Katunguka Rwakishaya says the University will open for continuing students on March 1st, 2021 for three weeks lectures followed by examinations which will begin on March 22nd, 2021.

According to the letter, first-year students will self-enroll online between March 22nd, 2021 and April 11th, 2021 and officially report to the University on April 10th, 2021.

The University is also preparing to release a detailed program for semester one and two of academic year 2020/2021 and graduation.

Kyambogo University had earlier on invited students to turn up on February 1st, 2021 for physical lectures after spending two weeks on online classes.

However, the University cancelled the reopening following a directive from President Museveni to all higher education institutions to continue with online studies for at least another three months to enable the government to find a lasting solution for COVID-19.

Several students had already reported to their respective hostels and halls of residences when the university cancelled the program.

Some had started planning to return home due to uncertainties surrounding the reopening of the University.

Prosper Ainembabazi, a second-year education student said her parents have severally called her demanding that she travels back home and waits for the way forward.

Some students say they will travel back home and return in March when they have the assurance that studies have resumed.
