Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Nakawa Chief Magistrates Court has remanded Dr. Eron Lawrence, a Senior Lecturer at Kyambogo University on charges of aggravated defilement. It alleged that he defiled and infected a visually impaired teenager with HIV.

On Friday, Dr Lawrence appeared before Chief Magistrate Christine Nantege who didn’t allow him to plead to the charges against them because they are capital in nature and can only be tried by the High Court.

The prosecution alleges that on October 12th, 2023, between Kyambogo University and Namugongo Nsawo village in the Wakiso District, Dr Eron performed a sexual act with a girl aged 16 years with a disability when he was HIV positive and also a person in authority over her.

In the meantime, Dr. Eron Lawrence has been remanded to Luzira prison until July 17th, 2024  as investigations continue.

Police investigations have so far revealed that the victim was attending a workshop at Kyambogo University where Dr. Eron Lawrence headed a faculty of needs and rehabilitation. Kyambogo University has since suspended Dr. Lawrence Eron.

Police previously put a 10 million bounty on whoever could arrest Dr Lawrence after he was summoned to appear before them in vain. However, on Thursday night he presented himself to CID
