LCIII Chairperson remanded over aggravated defilement

Ebau

Soroti, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Peter Ebau, the LCIII Chairperson of Awaliwal in Soroti district has been remanded over aggravated defilement and human trafficking.

Ebau, 38, was re-arrested and arraigned to court on Wednesday. He reappeared before the Soroti Grade One Magistrate, Kibirige Kasujja Apollo, on Friday.

It is alleged that Ebau had defiled and impregnated his 15-year-old housemaid.

When Ebau learned the girl was pregnant, he sent her back to her parents in Katakwi.

However, the parents and the clan of the girl, after learning that the victim was pregnant, sought help from the LCI Chairman of Magara Village in Toroma Sub County, Simon Peter Ariko.

Although the matter was later reported to the police for investigations, the case almost flopped when the only document with the girl’s age was tampered with.

While appearing in court on Friday, the Magistrate did not allow the suspect to enter any plea since the court had no jurisdiction to hear the case and remanded him to Soroti Prison until June 14, when he will reappear for the mention of his case.

The Magistrate, however, advised Ebau to apply for bail from the High Court.
