Lira city council pays tribute to Town Clerk

Lira, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Lira City leaders gathered at the City Council to pay tribute to the late Town Clerk, Theophilus Tibihika. Tibihika died in a road crash on Monday along the Lira- Apac road.

On Tuesday, the casket containing Tibihika’s body lay in Council Chambers for a special sitting that was chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Shakila Among Mwenyi.

Speaker after speakerspoke fondly of Tibihika`s remarkable work since 2022 when he was appointed Town Clerk.

The City Mayor Sam Atul described the deceased as a dedicated leader whose efforts boosted revenue collection in the City. He is afraid the City will not get another leader like Tibihika.

Lillian Ocari, the Deputy Town Clerk described Tibihika as a think tank for the City and a professional administrator who had a big heart for the community.

“He started on systems strengthening; time management and timekeeping and if you go to our reception, just last week Theo installed for us a biometric machine for clocking in as we come into the office but 7:30 am was his time for coming and he could leave as late in the night. We had to give him a special key,” she added.

Ocari said the Town Clerk had instilled a sense of smartness in all staff.

Innocent Atukunda Tibihika, the Widow, acknowledged her husband’s love for Lira City saying he served the country diligently and always prayed to make Lira a great City.

Tibihika will be laid to rest on Friday at his ancestral home in Nyakasa Village, Kiyoora Parish, Nyakyera Sub County in Ntungamo District.
