Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has released the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results, stating that although malpractices continue, there was a general improvement in performance in 2017 compared to 2016. Division 1 passes increased by 2.4%.
UNEB whoever decried continued malpractices, that has seen them withold results of 4,525 candidates on suspicion that they engaged in examination cheating. Odongo revealed that 81 persons were arrested for aiding the exams malpractices, 49 have appeared in court and are currently on bail, 11 are due to appear in court while 21 have jumped police bonds.
Of 320,119 candidates, 31,338 were in Division 1 , 53,665 in Division 2, 70,797 in Division 3 and 131,660 Division 4.
Top on the list of centres whose results have been held is Nile HS Kiyunga in Luuka, that had 257 candidates, then Kajjansi Progressive in Wakiso with 253 and Nkuutu Memorial in Iganga with 252.
Like at the Primarly Leaving Examinations, most of the worst performing districts were again from Eastern Uganda. The worst according to failure rate included Bukwo 28.6%, Butaleja 28.3% , Kween 22.3%, Kapchorwa 22.2%, Pallisa 20.2%, Sironko 19.6%, Busia 18.8% and Bududa 18.0% in Eastern Uganda. Bundobugyo 28.7%, Buliisa 21.9%, and Kasese 18.0% joined the list from Western Uganda.
The A Level selection process is now set for February 14 and 15, UNEB confirmed.
