Lyantonde, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Lyantonde police have launched a manhunt for a 42-year-old man accused of beheading his wife on accusations of infidelity. The suspect has only been identified as Jamada, a resident of Kyewanula village in Lyantonde rural sub-county.
He reportedly committed the offence on Tuesday night at their marital home in Kyewanula village. Jamada allegedly killed Nailah Namata, 37, a mother of seven children on suspicion that she was involved in a secret affair with another man within the village.
According to residents, the couple has had a longstanding dispute over the same matter, which Namata had severally denied. The village council leadership tried to resolve the matter in vain.
Namata’s brother Sadat Waligo says the deceased’s husband was very jealous and often quarreled with his wife whenever he saw her talking to other men, which would result in fights.
He says the gruesome incident happened in the night in the presence of the couple’s children.
Police were called to the scene and took the body to Lyantonde hospital for postmortem. The postmortem pointed to multiple injuries mostly on the head, hands and back. Namata’s body has been handed over to her family members for burial at Kyewanula.
Denis Odoki, the Lyantonde District Police Commander says that they are investigating a crime of passion. He says that they are liaising with different security teams in Lyantonde and neighbouring districts to hunt the suspect.
