Maj Gen Otto takes over as Mountain Division and Operation Shujja commander

FORT PORTAL, UGANDA | THE INDEPENDENT | Maj Gen Richard Otto on Wednesday officially assumed office as Mountain Division and operation Shujja commander.

Maj Gen Otto takes over from Maj Gen Dick Olum who has been operation shujja and Mountain Division Commander since 2022.

Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga the Commander Land Forces who presided over the handover ceremony at Mountain Division Headquarters in Muhooti in Barracks Fort Portal City commended Maj Gen Dick Olum for the distinguished work in Operation Shujaa, which has enabled the local people to carry on with their economic and social activities in the areas where the joint forces of Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo  are operating.

Maj Gen Olum thanked President Yoweri Museveni for entrusting him with the leadership and command of the Mountain Division and Operation Shujaa.

Maj Gen Richard Otto noted that he will build on the foundation laid by Lt Gen Muhanga as the first Commander of Operation Shujaa and the achievements of his predecessor Maj Gen Olum.

Maj Gen Olum heads to South Sudan Stabilisation Mechanism where Maj Gen Otto has been representing Uganda.

The Shujja military operation was initiated by UPDF and forces of DR-Congo to fight the Allied Democratic Forces-ADF rebels .
