Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Makerere University needs shillings 7.5 billion to construct a stop students’ center through the university’s Endowment fund (EF).
This is according to Dr Muhammad Kiggundu Musoke, the university’s acting communications and international relations manager. He discloses that the Mak Run 2019 is part of Makerere University’s efforts to continuously engage with its stakeholders and appeal to their humanitarian nature.
The run, which is due to be held on September 15, will be the third edition of the Makerere University Endowment Fund Run 2019.
Just like the previous editions, all proceeds from Mak Run 2019 according to Dr Kiggundu will go towards the construction of the Mak Students’ Centre; a one-stop information centre with entertainment, recreational and commercial facilities among other amenities.
Gloria Nakyeyune Musitwa, the Fund Administrator of the Makerere Endowment Fund says so far a total of 400 million has been raised from the previous runs. She appealed to the alumni to embrace this year’s run.
According to Matia Kabuye, Makerere’s acting Director Planning and Development, the university endowment fund is a fall back financial base for the university approved by the governing council.
Dr Kiggundu says this year’s run will cover a 5km fun run and a 10 km leg for the more spirited runners with the Flag off at the Freedom Square starting at 6 a.m. on D-day.
He adds that the initial prioritized multipurpose students centre project will include a student job search facility state of the art auditorium/ performing arts theatre, commercial space for restaurants, banks, student support services, shopping areas, food courts and cafeterias, bookshops among others.
The tickets are on sale at Makerere University guest house, Makerere University printery, Main library and Main building, at 15,000 shillings for students, 25,000 Shillings for silver and 50,000 shillings for gold.
