Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | A motor accident along Masaka-Kampala highway has claimed one person and injured four others. The accident occurred this afternoon at Lwera wetland, about six kilometers from Lukaya town council in Kalungu district when a speeding taxi registration number UBB 144L rammed into a stationary Fuso truck.
The dead has been identified as George Tumwebaze, a Banana trader from Mitooma district. He was transporting bananas to Kampala for sale. The injured are Monica Atuhiirwe, her one-year-old daughter only identified as Alyatunga, Evelyn Atuhiirwe and Frank Nasaasira, the taxi driver.
They were rushed to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for medical attention. Victor Tumwebaze, the Kalungu District Traffic Police Officer, says the Kampala bound taxi rammed into the stationery Fuso truck number UAW 960B that had broken down on the road.
He explains that the late Tumwebaze was standing by the road side to wait for the mechanic to work on their truck when he was killed. He blames the accident on speeding by the taxi driver.
