Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | All is set for the 17th edition of the Masaza Cup set to kick off tomorrow, 20th November 2021.
Just like the previous edition of the tournament, the organizers confirmed that all games will be played at FUFA Technical center in Njeru, in a bid to control the spread of Covid-19.
Although the Buganda Masaza Cup is known for pulling off crowds as people from different counties storm stadiums to tussle it out in the prestigious Buganda tournament, Sulaiman Sejjengo, chairperson Masaza organizing committee confirmed that no fans will be allowed to enter the stadium.
Sejjengo however said as the organizers, they are planning to broadcast the games live on television so that people can support their teams. This will be the second time the tournament is being played virtually.
The championship will be played in a tournament format with teams drawn into four groups. The groups include Masengere, Muganzirwaza, Bulange and Butikiro. All teams were drawn in these four groups.
Under the Masengere group, defending champions Gomba were drawn alongside two time Champions Ssingo. Other counties in the group are Kyadondo, Kabula and Buluuli.
The second group named Muganzirwazza will also have five teams namely Buddu, Mawogola, Busujju, Buwekula and Butambala.
In the Bulange group, Busiro will be tussling it out with Bugerere, Kyaggwe, and Buvuma. The last group will be Butikiro which has four teams, and these are Bulemezi, Kooki, Mawokota and Ssese.
Ahead of the tournament, FUFA Deputy CEO in charge of football, Decolus Kiiza said the Masaza cup tournament will be played at FUFA Technical center in Njeru, adding that he does expect fans in the stadium.
According to the organizers, the official opening of the tournament will be graced by His Majesty Kabaka Muwenda Mutebi ll tomorrow on 20th November 2021, at FUFA Technical center in Njeru.
