Micho in Gabon for Nations Cup draw

Uganda Cranes, back at the high table of African football for the first time in 38 years, will find out today who they face when AFCON Gabon 2017 kicks off January 14.

The official draw of the 31st edition of the continental showpiece will be held in Libreville today. The final tournament is scheduled for January 14 to  February 5 2017 in the Gabonese cities of Libreville, Franceville, Oyem and Port Gentil.  Group A will be based in the capital Libreville, Group B in Franceville, Group C in Oyem with Port Gentil hosting the teams in Group D.

Uganda’s Milutin Micho Sredojevic is part of  heads of delegation, coaches and other administrative officials of the 16 qualified teams that will witness the draws.

Uganda and Togo qualified as the best two best runners-up, qualifing alongside the winners of the 13 groups Tunisia (Group A), DR Congo (Group B), Mali (Group C), Burkina Faso (Group D), Guinea Bissau (Group E), Morocco (Group F), Egypt (Group G), Ghana (Group H), Cote d’Ivoire (Group I), Algeria (Group J), Senegal (Group K), Zimbabwe (Group L) and Cameroon (Group M).

Uganda was last at the final in 1978, and finally, guided by Micho, broke the qualification jinx by beating Comoros 1-0.

“Simply there is no enough time to go over all possible stories of African football when you meet dear friends Kwesi, George, King Kalu, TK, Ibenge” tweeted Micho from Gabon with a photo of several African football legends and journalists.

” Seeing all this football people here in Gabon appreciating our Cranes qualification,” tweeted Micho.

Micho is attending a pre-event workshop organised by soccer governing body CAF to discuss organisational and logistical arrangements for the tournament including accommodation, training, security, transportation, marketing and media.
